Lake Middle School staff members are excited to have students return to begin the 2017-2018 school year!  The enclosed information is being sent to assist you in preparing for the upcoming school year.  Please be sure to read the information carefully.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the front office directly at 651.425.6400.

The doors of Lake Middle School will open to kick off the new school year on Tuesday, September 5th for over 1,350 students in grades 6th, 7th and 8th!  We are excited to have so many students returning and we are eager to meet new students and their families who will be attending Lake for the first time!  Welcome everyone!

Lake’s overall school theme for the upcoming school year is “Be Golden!”   Representing and practicing the “Golden Rule” of “treating others the way you would like to be treated” as well as “going for the gold” by doing our best in all that we do will be our focus.  We will identify and support each student’s individual and unique strengths and talents in order to prepare them for a successful experience at school, home and in our community!  “Be Golden” was chosen to help inspire each student to do their best in Leadership, Academics and Kindness in order to Excel throughout the 2017-2018 school year.  We are thrilled about initiatives and activities being incorporated into the school days ahead that include building-wide strategies geared to encourage and support learning, successful work habits, organization, positive communication and inclusive interactions with others.

As mentioned above, we will have over 1,350 students as part of our Lake school community this year.  We are utilizing our space to the utmost maximum as we are larger than we have ever been!  It has been an exciting summer at the building with many construction projects implemented to update and expand our space.  The media center will be completely remodeled and extended to provide larger and collaborative learning spaces for individual students as well as multi-class opportunities.  The technology will be upgraded to provide a new environment to support how our students are working and learning together.    Our physical fitness room will also be updated and extended as it serves as one of our physical education classrooms throughout the school year.  All new construction on the addition to the building is scheduled to be completed by December 1st.  This new area (located/built outside of the current physical education wing) will provide an additional choir/music room and a large group learning space that will be utilized by many classes throughout the school days as well as  clubs, activities and community organizations when school is not in session.  We will be “bursting at the seams” during the 2017-2018 school year until the new District 833 Middle School boundaries are drawn and in effect during the 2018-2019 school year when the new Oltman Middle School opens in the fall of 2018!

Included in this mailing is information related to orientation/transition activities for all students and the upcoming “Parent Information Nights” occurring in the weeks ahead.  We anticipate seeing each of you at these events!

We hope you are having a wonderful summer and we are looking forward to an amazing 2017-2018 school year.  Thanks to each of you in advance for your continued support, partnership and involvement in your child’s education.  We are all very fortunate to be part of such an exceptional school district and community!

May the 2017-2018 school year BE GOLDEN for your family!
