To: Incoming 6th Grade Students/Families:

The staff at Lake Middle School is very eager to welcome you and your family to a new school year!  Starting the middle school experience is very exciting and part of our job is to make sure the transition from elementary school is as smooth, positive and fun as possible for everyone!   To assist you in this transition, we are happy to welcome you to Camp 6!

Camp 6 will begin on Monday, August 21st and will begin promptly at 8:00am each day it is in session.  Students will be dismissed at 12:00pm to return home each day.  We have included the Camp 6 Transportation Route Information  (available to all students) from the district’s transportation department in this mailing.  We are asking that you find the bus stop closest to where your child will be the mornings of August 21st, 22nd and 23rd  to catch the bus.  (Plan to be at the stop at least 10 minutes prior to the stated arrival time to ensure pick up.)   If you have any questions regarding the transportation being provided, please call 651.425.5303 .  If you do not plan to utilize the district provided transportation, plan to arrive at Lake Middle School by 7:50am each morning.

Throughout the three sessions, we will be presenting many items that will help prepare incoming 6th grade students for their transition to the middle school setting this fall.  Some of the scheduled activities include but are not limited to: WEB “Where Everyone Belongs” programming (see the WEB information flyer in this mailing), meeting school staff members/teachers, receiving and learning about your class schedule, touring the school to become familiar with your daily class schedule, learning about school processes and procedures, utilizing lockers, organizing belongings, becoming familiar with utilizing student planners, meeting new friends, team building, etc.  Students will receive a snack each day and will learn how to maneuver through the middle school cafeteria setting. We will also spend time getting to know each other as we prepare to start the upcoming school year as a new 6th grade class from various elementary schools!

SCHOOL SUPPLIES:  DO NOT send school supplies with your student until TUESDAY, AUGUST 22nd !  On Tuesday August 22nd please send your student to Camp 6 with their school supplies PLUS $5 for a lock for their gym locker.   This fee will be collected by their Homebase teacher. The Lake School Supply List is included in this mailing.  (There is no cost for student planners.)  Students will spend time getting their belongings organized, writing in their planners, assembling the required three-ring binder and have time to put their materials in their lockers in order to be prepared for the first day of school.

SCHOOL PICTURES:  6th grade student “School Pictures” will be taken during Camp 6 on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 22nd and 23rd.   Please see flyer enclosed that indicates which day your child is scheduled to have their 6th grade school picture taken with their Homebase class.  The School Picture Order Form is included in this mailing.  If you do not want to order school pictures, please plan to still have your picture taken free of charge for school use, District 833’s student information system, your student ID card and to be included in our annual yearbook.

CAMP 6 - 6TH GRADE PARENT NIGHT:  Camp 6 Parent Night is Wednesday, August 23rd from 6pm-8pm. This event is for parents only.  At 6th Grade Parent Night, parents will have the opportunity to travel through their child’s class schedule and meet each of their teachers.  (Additional information regarding this event will be forwarded to parents via Blackboard Connect and from their students upon completion of the Wednesday morning Camp 6 session.) Lake staff members/teachers will be available in classrooms to answer any questions and provide information on class content and curriculum throughout the evening.  Please come and see where your student will be spending their school days and what to expect in the year ahead!

We look forward to a great year working with you and your family!  If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Lake Middle School Front Office at 651.425.6400.
