Striving for Independence

Homebase Theme of the Month is Independence in March
Thursday, March 1, 2018 - 08:52

Hello Homebase Students and Families!

Our Homebase focus during the month of February at Lake Middle School was “Kindness.”  Many of our Homebase class discussions and activities were geared to remind students how important it is to be kind to each other at all times.  We continue to set the expectation that being friendly, generous and considerate in everything that we do and say contributes to a positive and safe climate in our school community, including the venue of social media.  As a school staff, we consistently reinforce respectful and appropriate language, content and interactions at all times on behalf of everyone. As we continue to service and support all of our students academically and socially each day, we also attempt to transition them in to a level of personal accountability in regard to their verbal interactions with their peers.  Disrespect towards others in any form is not tolerated at Lake Middle School and consequences for disrespect are in place.  Please encourage your student to continue to practice kindness in person and utilize social media appropriately!

During the month of March, we will be focusing on “Independence.” Homebase class discussions and activities will be geared to prepare students to be able present their individual learning independently during Student-Led Conferences.    Lake Middle School’s Spring 2018 Student-Led Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday, March 13th and 15th from 3:30pm-7:30pm each night.  (You are welcome to attend which night works best for you and your family.)

Throughout recent weeks, students have spent a great deal of time reflecting on their current achievement and setting new academic goals to finish out the current school year.  As we continue to prepare for conferences, we also attempt to transition them in to a level of personal accountability and independence in their academic responsibilities and daily work.  Please encourage your student to continue building skills in the area of “independence” as they strive to positively finish out this current school year!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time!  Thanks for your support!
