All Middle School Students to Return in Hybrid Learning Model on February 16, 2021.

Welcome Back Hybrid Students Video (6 minutes)

Instead, all middle school students (grades 6-8) currently in distance learning for trimester two will return to school in a hybrid learning model starting Tuesday, Feb. 16. Students who are in the Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) for trimester two will remain in VLA with their same schedule.

This change will allow us to bring more students back to school sooner for additional support, reduce the potential for large-scale quarantines and provide at least three feet of space between students in the classroom. As a reminder, the hybrid learning model is how the school year began with a combination of in-person learning at school and distance learning at home on alternating days.

Hybrid students will be receiving content through Schoology each day (Monday through Friday) from their periods 1, 2 and 3 teachers the first six weeks of the trimester and periods 4, 5 and 6 for the second six weeks of the trimester, in additional to their two days a week in person each week.

Whether or not the students are ONSITE, they will be responsible for content that will be assigned to them through Schoology each day of the week (Monday through Friday). All teachers will continue to have online office hours/distance learning opportunities each day and for additional support as needed on a daily basis.

What this Means for Middle School Students and Families (Grades 6-8)

  • Middle school students in grades 6-8 will return to the hybrid learning model on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
  • Students who are in the Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) for trimester two will remain in VLA.
  • Students currently receiving special education services at school will continue to attend school in-person for intensive services.
  • Families should have a plan in case their child’s classroom or school must transition back to distance learning due to potential COVID-19 exposures.
    • When possible, a substitute teacher will be hired to cover teacher absences.
  • To learn more about the hybrid model please visit sowashco.org/hybrid

  • Please remember to send any school medications (i.e. Epi pens, inhalers, etc.) and provider orders to the LMS Health Office. In the event a health emergency occurs without a student's emergency medication available, our only option is to call 911. Click here for the Medication Authorization Form
  • Please continue to report your child's COVID-19 illness and quarantines to the LMS Health Office. Our nurses are here to help you navigate this virus, answer your questions, and track data to help plan for a safe return to hybrid and in-person learning.
  • If your student is currently ill and/or has tested positive for COVID-19 OR has been exposed to anyone who has tested positive in the last 14 days, please contact the LMS Health Office before returning to school on February 16th.
  • If you have any question, please contact the LMS Health Office at 651-425-6412.

Thank You
As we transition students back to hybrid learning, we will take a targeted approach to keep students in school. This means if a classroom is exposed to someone who is infected with COVID-19, the class would shift to distance learning during the 14-day quarantine period and the school would remain in session as usual. We ask that families be prepared for the possibility that their child’s class could move to distance learning at any time.

 Attendance Due
