The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change. The Mission of AVID

The mission of AVID is to ensure that ALL students, and most especially the least served students who are in the middle:

  • will succeed in rigorous curriculum,
  • will complete a rigorous college preparatory path,
  • will enter mainstream activities of the school,
  • will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges, and
  • will become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society

 

AVID's systematic approach is designed to support students and educators as they increase school-wide/district-wide learning and performance.

AVID Student Profile

AVID is a college preparation system offering provisions to students who may need extra support to achieve their academic and college goals.

Students considered for AVID are:

  • average or above average in academics
  • underserved in the college system, and/or first-generation college students
  • motivated and determined to participate in honors classes in high school

What Can My Child Do During The Summer To Prepare for College?

Volunteer - Colleges look for evidence that students are "contributors" to society.

Summer Enrichment Programs - AVID offers both a math and science summer program.

Información de la clase electiva AVID

La clase electiva Avance Vía Determinación Individual (AVID) provee un plan de estudios que se enfoca en sólidas habilidades de lectura y escritura, organización, estrategias de estudio para el éxito e investigación sobre universidades y carreras. Los estudiantes de AVID también participan en tutorías de estilo socrático dos días a la semana. El programa Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) está dirigido a estudiantes en el medio académico que tienen el deseo de ir a la universidad y la voluntad de trabajar con esfuerzo. AVID coloca a los estudiantes académicamente promedio en clases avanzadas y les brinda una clase electiva que los prepara para tener éxito en un plan de estudios riguroso, ingresar a las actividades principales de la escuela y aumentar sus oportunidades de inscribirse en universidades de cuatro años.

AVID Elective class Information 

The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) elective class provides a curriculum that focuses on strong reading and writing skills, organization, study strategies for success, and research on colleges and careers.  AVID students also participate in Socratic-style tutorials two days per week. The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program targets students in the academic middle who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. AVID places academically average students in advanced classes and provides them with an elective class that prepares them to succeed in rigorous curricula, enter mainstream activities in school, and increase their opportunities to enroll in four-year colleges.
